Criteria to respect to achieve a "Brushwood compost" according to Jean PAIN's recommendations
Harvesting of mixed variety, maximum 80% of a single species.
Plants treated alive, no delay between cut and composting except the chipping and transport time.
No maximum size of plants since they are treated the same way, the larger section to the end of the leaves.
Grinding (chipping) the appropriate particle size before the start of composting, no re-grinding during fermentation or after fermentation, no screening.
Maximum thickness of the largest pieces: 4 mm. Optimum thickness: 2 to 3 mm.
Humidifying immediately after grinding.
Absorption of about 700 liters of water per m3 of chips (varies depending on the humidity of the plants.)
Relative humidity after humidification: about 82%, moving up to 60% at the time of use.
Use any clean water not poluted by elements recognized dangerous or that could cause a change in fermentation, in any case preferably use well water.
No "wash out" of the product.
No dry fermentation.
No addition of complementary product except water.
Minimum volume a heap of ground material: normal volume for an elevation of temperature (50 ° to 70 °).
Maximum height of a heap on construction: 3 m.
Maximum volume of one heap: 300 m3.
Throughout the period of fermentation, the temperature should be between 45 ° and 80 °.
Brewing and new fermentation requirements two months before the release for home use or bagging.
Name "Jean PAIN Compost" after at least 8 months of nonstrict aerobic fermentation; exclusively for use in supply on surface, not burial; must be clear at the release to the market.
Name "Jean PAIN Loam"after testing the largest pieces found in the heap can be crushed between thumb and forefinger; usable as a growth substrate or for potting.
Relative humidity at the time of release to the market: 50% to 60%.
