Super-Pain wood chips in action

Applications & uses

A consistent wood chip — free from sawdust and tailing — opens a wide range of direct applications: from the garden to the boiler, but also animal bedding, mulching or soil regeneration. All of these uses are possible straight from the chipper, with no screening or sorting required.

Soil & farming

Fresh or fermented wood chips are at the heart of soil regeneration practices. Whether for Jean Pain composting, ramial chipped wood (RCW), permaculture or agroforestry, the quality and consistency of the chippings determines the speed and quality of the transformation.

Wood energy

Chipped wood is a renewable, locally sourced fuel. Automatic wood-chip boilers, Jean Pain fermentation heating, insulation… each use demands a precise chip size. This is where the quality of the Super-Pain chip makes a decisive difference.

Livestock & animal bedding

Wood chips make high-quality natural bedding for horses, cattle, poultry and small animals. Absorbent, hygienic and easy to manage, they stand out from straw for their sanitary properties and superior moisture absorption. The regular chip size produced by Super-Pain chippers is particularly well suited to this use.

Equine bedding

Consistent chips absorb moisture evenly, limit mould growth and compost easily. The natural hygiene properties of wood simplify the care of light-coloured coats and ensure the animals' respiratory comfort. Ideal for loose boxes and straw yards.

Poultry & small animals

A dry, absorbent bedding reduces pathogens and simplifies cleaning. Our chip size is perfectly suited to poultry houses and enclosures. Animals can safely follow their scratching instinct without risk.

Cattle & straw yards

Mixed in or used as a top layer, chips improve animal comfort and reduce straw consumption. The resulting manure is a higher-quality soil amendment than standard straw manure.

Equestrian surfaces

The shape of the chips and their ability to absorb and release moisture make them an excellent riding surface: flexible, stable underfoot, greatly reducing dust in summer and absorbing water in winter. The absence of large splinters and sawdust ensures the safety and comfort of the animals.

Mulching & landscaping

As a ground cover, chips retain moisture, suppress weeds and improve the visual appearance of green spaces. They also find use as a surface material for garden paths and forest tracks.

Horticultural mulch

Reduced watering, winter soil protection, weed suppression — a layer of wood chips transforms garden management.

Thermal insulation

In construction, wood chips serve as thermal and acoustic insulation — mixed with lime or cement, or used in lightweight insulating screeds.

Environment

A chipper is not just a processing tool — it's also a protection tool. Preventive clearing against wildfires, hedgerow maintenance, carbon sequestration in the soil — Super-Pain chippers contribute to more sustainable land management practices.

What makes all of this possible

Chip size — the starting point of every application

All these applications share a common requirement: a consistent chip, free from sawdust and tailing. It's what enables even fermentation, smooth boiler flow, healthy bedding and long-lasting mulch. Learn more about Super-Pain chip granulometry →
